Abstract

I will present the current scientific activities of the Mater Lumem research laboratory headed by Prof. Rogéria Rocha Gonçalves. Then I will introduce my PhD scientific activity in the framework of the Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program "Ciências sem Fronteiras".

I will presents some recent results regarding the synthesis, the structural and the optical characterizations of Pr3+/Yb3+ co-doped SiO2/Nb2O5 and Tm3+/Yb3+ co-doped SiO2/Ta2O5 nanocomposites prepared by sol gel method. XRD and FTIR analysis were carried out in order to elucidate the influence of rare earth content and the annealing temperature on the structure of the nanocomposites. Based on the photoluminescence analysis of the nanocomposites, it was noted the influence of annealing temperature and rare earth concentration on the luminescence properties. Moreover, we investigated ion-ion interaction as well as up- and downconversion processes
