"UV Resonant Raman scattering beamline at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste: a platform for material science"
Elettra – Sincrotrone Trieste
Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is a multidisciplinary international research center of excellence, specialized in generating high quality synchrotron and free-electron laser light and applying it in materials and life sciences. In particular, the IUVS beamline@Elettra is devoted to the study of inelastic scattering with ultraviolet radiation, in a time-space domain not accessible at present by other facilities. We introduce here the synchrotron-based resonant Raman scattering instrument working in the UV spectral range, newly developed on IUVS. This set-up, which exploits the UV synchrotron radiation source available at Elettra results in an innovative spectroscopic facility to be used for addressing a large array of open problems, ranging from the electronic properties of nanostructures and strongly correlated materials to biophysical and biochemical systems. Selected case studies will be discussed in order to show the possible applications of the Raman set-up and the areas of interactions with other research interests.
