"Synthesis of nanoparticles and hybrid materials with controlled morphology, structure, and surface for more sustainable functional and structural applications - The activity of NanoMat@Lab of University of Milano-Bicocca"

After a short presentation of NanoMat@Lab group, its activity will be reported focused on the preparation of inorganic nanoparticles, in particular oxides, and of organic- inorganic hybrid materials through bottom-up chemical methods, such as sol-gel, template assisted synthesis, solvothermal, hot injection techniques. The purpose are the design and the synthetic control of the physical chemical characteristics of the particles, morphology and structure, size and composition, surface characteristics and functionalization. These features are strictly dependent either on the functional or structural properties requested for the application of the final material, and on the sustainability of particle processing and use, in term of energy saving or substitution, recycling or reuse of critical raw materials. The main results will be reported in the fields of the preparation of a) inorganic nanofillers for multifunctional polymer nanocomposites, aimed at obtaining high performing and energy saving materials for automotive; b) nanostructured materials for photocatalysis and silica based scintillating materials; c) materials for the recovering and reuse of materials.
