Day Of Photonics

DAY OF PHOTONICS is an annual event that promotes “photonics” towards the general public. Companies, research organizations, and organizations involved in photonics will reach out to their communities to raise awareness about what is photonics and why it is important, and promote the role of their organization in the photonics ecosystem and value chain.

Most events are on a small scale organized within the company, but flagship events will complement and media will be invited to spread the word about this emerging key enabling technology that will ultimately have the same impact on society as the electronics industry. Photonics is a Key Enabling Technology, together let’s make sure the world understands the significance and relevance of the photonics industry! Activities will be held over numerous countries and encompass all kinds of demonstrations on the impact of photonics on our day-to-day life, and the role of companies, research organizations and universities. Photonics technologies include: LED lighting, Photovoltaic solar energy, Photonics Integrated Circuits, Optical components, Lasers, Sensors, Imaging, Displays, Projectors, Optic fiber, and other photonic related technologies which find applications in health, security, agriculture, food, communication, transportation, … The activities are self-organized on a voluntary basis, in all regions of the world. Companies will organize events among their staff that will stimulate a discussion of the role of Photonics (including family days, staff reception). Flagship events will reach out to the general public, public authorities, investors, and other stakeholders. DAY OF PHOTONICS 2014 is a preparatory awareness-raising activity of the International Year of Light 2015.

Every company, university, school, association, organization is invited to participate and organize an activity!
