Alessandro Chiasera received the Ph.D. degree in physics in 2003. He is currently a Researcher at the National Research Council of Italy, Institute for Photonics and Nanotechnologies IFN, Unit of Trento, Italy. Since 2000, his principal activity is related to the develop and diagnostic of photonic devices based on glasses matrix fabricated by various techniques and, in particular, rf-sputtering. He is active in the fabrication and optical, structural and spectroscopic characterization of 1D photonic crystal, thin films, and planar waveguides based in different materials. This research activity is related to the activities of the CSMFO Laboratory and the principal research activities, are (1) Properties, structure and processing of glasses and films for photonic applications and modelling and interpretation of the related physicals phenomena. (2) Fabrication and optical, structural and spectroscopic characterization of massive glasses obtained by melting and sol-gel route activated with rare earth ions. (3) Fabrication and optical, structural and spectroscopic characterization of optical planar waveguides obtained with various techniques (dip-coating, spin-coating, rf-sputtering, ion-exchange) activated with rare earth ions. (4) Nanostructured and composite materials as example with co-activation with metal nanoparticles (massive systems, films, planar waveguides, ultra-transparent glass-ceramics). (5) Fabrication with sol-gel route and rf-sputtering technique and optical, structural and spectroscopic characterization of 1D photonic crystal and artificial opals. (6) Spherical microresonators (fabrication, spectroscopic and morphologic characterization). He is involved in various national and international projects regarding glass photonics. He has 299 articles on International scientific journal and 282 communications in national and international conferences.
